WOST Info Day: Production-ready optical design
Optimized optical designs show very good performance values in simulation. However, for real world implementation, manufacturing tolerances and other varying environmental influences must also be taken into account in the design process in order to keep waste to a minimum. For example, the real performance of plastic-injected lenses is often significantly lower than the simulated one, because the permissible deviation from the ideal shape may be exceeded. In addition, costly processes such as optical polishing are often used without validation. Through a realistic simulation of the actual effects of tolerances and other undesirable influences on production and performance of the optical system, saving potentials can be exploited while still assuring quality requirements.
During the info day, an integrated approach of robust design optimization will be presented and discussed. The aim is to show which phanomena have a critical or non-critical effect on optical performance.
The presented results are also part of the VDI guideline:

The info day is aimed at product and development managers as well as active and potential CAE users.
